England Super-Subs Primed To Start Against Slovakia
England to a 2-1 win over Wales at Euro 2016.
Russian Federation drew 1-1 against England before losing to Slovakia 2-1, and their only chance of qualification rests on beating Wales.
Cape Town – An injury-time victor against Wales and a peaceful night of celebrations for their much criticised supporters have given England fresh momentum ahead of their final Group B game against Slovakia. But a win in the final match against Slovakia would guarantee first place in both worlds.
The Swansea City defender added that the heart-breaking nature of the loss to England in Lens would not cloud the positives of their campaign so far, with his message in the post-match huddle having been for the players to keep their heads up.
“It is tough for everybody obviously but we have another game on Monday and it is a quick turnaround so we won’t get down about it”.
If England lose then they can not finish top of the group, as Slovakia would move ahead of them with six points.
“We can still progress and it is in our hands”.
Ledley feels Sturridge’s late victor will not alter the spirit in the Wales camp, which was on a high after their opening victory over Slovakia. “I don’t know yet what I’ll have if we beat Russian Federation but it’ll be something nice”. Unlucky not to hold on but the fans did us proud again!
Russian Federation has one point after drawing 1-1 with England in its first match before its 2-1 loss to Slovakia.
“We just need to continue what we have been doing, both on and off the pitch”, said Ledley.
It was the tournament’s first 0-0 stalemate, though Adam Nawalka’s side would feel they should have secured the three points due to producing more clear-cut openings.
“It isn’t always easy to change players at half-time but he’s done that and it paid off for us”.
“Russia are a strong team, well organised. We’ll have to wait till Monday what team the boss puts out and hopefully we can get the job done”, said Vardy.
‘I thought it was on the cards all the way through the second half’.
“I can’t say I’ve felt as disappointed too many times in my career as I did when that goal went in”.
“I think in a situation like that when it’s 35 yards out if you set up a wall it gives someone of the quality of Bale a target to hit”, said Brown.
“Harry and Raheem did well enough against Russian Federation, we played very, very well, but in the first half (against Wales) they showed signs of wear and tear having played that game, so it was quite an easy decision at half-time to change it”.
“I think Sterling will come out of the team and they have a big decision with Kane”, he told Sky Sports News HQ.
