Cause of San Francisco fire that displaced 58 still unknown
Dozens were evacuated from the buildings while many more were ordered to shelter in place as firefighters tried to douse the flames, according to media reports and the San Francisco Fire Department.
Additionally, a shelter-in-place order was given to residents in surrounding blocks.
The number of buildings on fire has varied, going from four to eight, then back to six, and fire officials have given an evacuation order for anyone inside buildings located between 3300 and 3366 Mission St.
The fire was first reported around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The fire ultimately displaced 57 people.
After the fire, firefighters thoroughly searched the buildings and did not find any dead animals inside any of the buildings.
The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army has been assisting those who lost their homes while business owners were hoping on Monday to be able to begin the process of assessing their losses. Baxter said Mayor Ed Lee came to the scene and spoke with affected residents. Displaced residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.
