Cam Robinson, Hootie Jones Charges Dropped By DA
KNOE-TV in Monroe reported Monday that the district attorney there has dropped the charges against two Alabama football players arrested in May. The charges included possession of a stolen firearm, a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled unsafe substance.
Alabama coach Nick Saban hasn’t levied any punishment against the players, noting that he wanted to acquire more information about the incident. Robinson, a junior offensive lineman, was charged with the same offenses as well as felony possession of a stolen firearm – according to online booking records. Jones was facing the same two misdemeanor counts.
According to the police report, an officer approached the players’ auto and smelled marijuana. The DA released an empathetic statement that equates, essentially, to “we all make mistakes” when describing why Robinson and Jones will not be prosecuted.
Robinson has started at left tackle for the last two years, and early mock drafts have him pegged as a potential top-5 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Monroe police said the players were arrested after an officer smelled marijuana coming from a parked vehicle in a closed public park. According to the report, a handgun and a bag of marijuana were in plain sight, while a stolen handgun was found under the passenger seat. Jones has played mostly as a reserve is his first two seasons.
