Grant Gustin Reveals The Flash Season 3 Premiere Title
It followed an earlier tweet from series executive producer Greg Berlanti who told Gustin “I’m cool with you telling them the title”. This is a show that has done so much great stuff through two seasons that it’s given you a reason to be psyched for the third … and it’s amplified that further courtesy of the Flashpoint decision that came with Barry going back in time and allowing his mother to live. One major change could be that Barry loses his powers as a result of altering the timeline.
As many fans suspected after that jaw-dropping finale, The Flash will officially be depicting the seminal DC Comics storyline Flashpoint in season 3. In the comics version of the Flashpoint reality, Barry found he was now powerless. There’s no reason why The Flash can’t introduce different versions of other characters too, especially if this is an alternate timeline. For Flashpoint newbies, the story comes from the 2011 comic book crossover of the same name written by DC Comics boss Geoff Johns.
One theory that seems nearly guaranteed is that the Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher) will return for season three. He actually helps Barry to remember his past actions by resetting Barry’s internal vibrations, and then tries to kill him.
Flashpoint certainly seems like a good way of bringing Supergirl into the Arrowverse fold, but you have to wonder how Barry’s new timeline will impact Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It could mean nothing, but it could mean everything. In the meantime, you can check out Kayti’s breakdown about what we’d like to see in the next season here and Dave’s piece on Black Flash right here. As Flashpoint changed the comics outside The Flash, one could argue (and hope) that the effects would reach the other shows, including Supergirl, as well. Heck, we don’t even know who the Big Bad will be yet!
The Flash Season 3 premiers Tuesday, October 4th at 8pm ET on The CW.
