Netflix Unveils Plans For Its Marvel Series
Jessica Jones is next on the docket, with all episodes premiering on Netflix later this year.
Also coming by the end of the year is the new Bob Odenkirk/David Cross sketch comedy series, With Bob and David, Hemlock Grove: Season 3 (the final season), the new animated series F is For Family and the new special A Very Murray Christmas, starring, of course, Bill Murray.
Netflix has a plan in place for all its various Marvel series and shared some of the details of that plan at this week’s Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, as reported by IGN.
According to Sarandos, he hopes to have a new Marvel series appearing on the streaming service every six months. “Some will selectively have multiple seasons as they come out of the gate”, said Sarandos.
All four will join forces in a combined “Defenders” season after each has been introduced with its own first season. “So they’ll probably be two launches a year”. “It sounds like everything is going wonderfully and I personally can’t wait to watch season 2 with the rest of you”. Should this Thunderbolts rumor turn out to be true, it would be an interesting opportunity for Marvel to spotlight a group of characters who arent superheroes automatically willing to do good. Luke Cage and Daredevil season two are both set for 2016, followed by Iron Fist and a Defenders miniseries.
Iron Fist is now the only Marvel series for Netflix that doesn’t now have a star or a showrunner attached to it. Sarandos explained that “it’s always a little extra complex with Marvel in announcing things”.
“Marvel’s Jessica Jones” will feature Krysten Ritter (“Breaking Bad“, “Don’t Trust the B– in Apartment 23”) as the titular character. “That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe”, he said. Regardless of the order in which they premiere, it’s all building to one major event.
