Hundreds in line for slain ‘Voice’ singer’s services
Speaking at a public memorial service on Friday (June 17), a day after the 22-year-old was buried in her hometown in New Jersey, Mr Bud Grimmie said he knows he will see his daughter again in heaven.
Family, friends and locals who knew and loved Christina Grimmie – a finalist on Season 6 of NBC’s “The Voice” and a Twitter sensation with a recent album deal – gathered at the chapel on Church Road for a memorial service, where thousands of visitors were expected to pay their respects.
“The Voice” star Christina Grimmie is laid to rest after a fan shot her to death at Orlando concert.
Grimmie’s mother Tina became overwhelmed with emotion in front of the crowd of fans, friends and loved ones. (Marcus was on-hand to tackle Christina’s killer after he shot and killed the singer during a meet-and-greet in Orlando on Friday, June 10.) “All I’m going to say is thank God for the mark that she left on this world”. “I want to share what I’ve shared with several people here and that’s there’s this very big hole in my heart that I know is never going to go away”.
She released her debut recording “Find Me” in 2011, while the singer’s second EP – “Side A” – was released earlier this year.
Grimmie often cited her mother’s ongoing battle with breast cancer as her musical inspiration, including during her first appearance on “The Voice” in 2014, where her mother sobbed in the wings at her rendition of Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball”.
That is a question that still haunts the Grimmie family and even authorities.
Tina added, “I always told her I loved her…”
Her brother Marcus told mourners he still couldn’t comprehend the tragedy. No motive has been announced for the shooting.
Lastly Christina’s brother Marcus, who tried to stop gunman Loibl hurting any more people during his attack, was courageous enough to say a few words about his sister just as he did at a candlelit vigil.
Grimmie lived in nearby Evesham Township, about 20 miles from Philadelphia, before moving to Los Angeles in 2012.
Christina, who was on tour with pop-punk outfit Before You Exit, was greeting fans and signing autographs when Marcus approached her, armed with two guns and a knife. Early Sunday, a massacre at gay nightclub Pulse left 49 dead in the worst mass shooting in modern USA history.
“I want to share what I’ve shared with several people here”, said the singer’s father, Albert “Bud” Grimmie.
