Russian fan union chief being deported from France _ again
Aaron Ramsey and Neil Taylor scored before Bale capped a dominant Wales display by poking past Russian Federation goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev in the second half, his third goal in as many games.
Wales’s progress pas the group stage comes in their first ever European Championship finals.
“But three games ago we lost 3-0 against Sweden, so I don’t have to remind the players”, he said.
“We said before the game “let’s have no regrets”.
England and Wales have made it through to the last 16 of Euro 2016, but Wales topped group B after beating Russian Federation 3-0.
It now bows out of the tournament and can focus on the World Cup which it will host in two years’ time.
“After a tournament like this you need someone else to take charge of the national side, to take care and develop this side”.
Gareth Bale says beating Russian Federation 3-0 at Euro 2016 was the best performance he has been involved in for Wales.
It was not the last time in a frantic first half as Akinfeev stopped Ramsey’s powerful drive and smothered two more Bale attempts with Wales threatening to score from every attack. And counterattack it did, with all its goals coming from crisp movement and deft passing.
Ramsey ran at the Russian defence, slipping one way and the other before finding Bale through, clearly onside, to poke the ball past Akinfeev.
It was the first worldwide goal from a player who last scored at club level six years ago.
After two free-kick goals against Slovakia and England, the Real Madrid forward did it again against Russian Federation.
After that it was one long celebration for Wales fans, who gave standing ovations to Allen, Bale and Joe Ledley when they were substituted and hailed manager Chris Coleman. He is now the tournament’s top scorer with three goals. “I think, for the pressure of the game, the way we played was probably one of the best team performances I’ve been involved in”.
“That obviously created space that made me and Rambo [Ramsey] and all the midfielders get on the ball more and, ultimately, when you do that, you get more opportunities to do what we do best”. We said we didn’t just want to come here and make up the numbers.
“We started off the game so well and, from start to finish, we thoroughly deserved the win”. Appeared absolutely everywhere to both retain the ball and chase it down, and somehow found the composure to chip Akinfeev when through on goal facing a red wall of 10,000 expectant Welsh supporters.
“We want to thank the fans out here and at home”. It needed something special in games like that and we almost did but it just wasn’t to be. But as the match went on, they confidently chanted “We are top of the league” and now look forward to an encounter in the knockout phase.
It means Wales will now play a best third-placed team at the Parc des Princes in Paris on Saturday evening, with Albania, Northern Ireland, Czech Republic and Turkey all possible opponents.
