Clinton leads Trump by double digits
Two new polls came out Wednesday claiming to show GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump in trouble.
Seventy percent of Americans see Donald Trump unfavorably, up 10 percentage points in the past month and a record high since he announced his bid for the presidency last June, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll. Trump stood at 69 percent negative and 31 percent positive among registered voters, Clinton at 56 percent-43 percent.
The Marquette Law School Poll, conducted from June 9-12, shows that among likely voters, 46 percent favor Clinton, compared to the 37 percent who back Trump.
In the race for U.S. Senate Democrat Russ Feingold has 52 percent support among likely voters to Sen.
But Trump’s recent slide has reopened an advantage for Clinton, whose 55 percent unfavorable mark is now 15 points below Trump’s.
Clinton’s uptick in support appears to be due to her cutting into Trump’s lead among men and white voters. 45 percent of likely voters said that he could prevent another shooting like in Orlando, versus 41 percent for Clinton. NBC’s poll found that 54 percent think the former Secretary of State will be the next US president, while 40 percent think it will be Trump, widening the opinion gap from just 5 percent in last week’s poll.
While Trump has expanded the Republican Party with millions of new voters, the Democrats find themselves far from a position of unification. Among white voters, Trump’s lead has dropped from 14 percent to 9 percent.
Trump also had devastatingly high negatives among African-Americans (94% unfavorable) and Latinos (89% unfavorable).
While almost 33% of Republicans said that they viewed Trump unfavorably, only 17% of Democrats had an unfavorable view of Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. The margin of error is plus or minus 1.4 percentage points. The RealClearPolitics average of polls gives her a 4.5-point lead over the billionaire businessman. That’s virtually unchanged from last month, when the split was 53 percent unfavorable to 44 percent favorable.
Another 71% say the Trump University lawsuits bother them, and 67% said they’re bothered that Trump hasn’t released his tax returns. They were interviewed by cell phone and landline. But even shading on the up side, the numbers are not encouraging for Trump.
