BORDEAUX, France-Stadium security at the European soccer championships again overshadowed the games on Friday as fans throwing more than a dozen flares onto the field interrupted a match between the Czech Republic and Croatia in Saint-Etienne.

Then, UEFA fined the federation a total of 135,000 euros ($170,000) for a series of incidents including racial insults aimed at Italy forward Mario Balotelli, a fan running on the field, and fans’ offensive chants and banners.
Croatia were hit with a series of UEFA charges following the actions of some fans against Czech Republic at Euro 2016.
The CFF said a “small group of hooligans” had “stolen joy from Croatian fans and the Croatian team”.
Alvaro Morata scored twice for defending champions Spain and Eder was Italy’s victor as the two booked places in the last 16 of Euro 2016 on another day marred by fan violence.
Three others were convicted of offenses related to the violence and sentenced to prison terms of between one and two years.
Croatia, sanctioned three times during the qualifying competition, is already facing a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday after fans threw flares and ran on to the pitch during the team’s opening match at the finals against Turkey in Paris.
On Saturday, Uefa formally opened a disciplinary case against the Croatian football federation for racism and fan disorder.
Flares were thrown on to the pitch and fighting broke out in the stands.
Violence around football in Croatia has increased over the past four years since former Croatian global Davor Suker took over the reins of the federation.
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic remain alive in the tournament after they came from 2-0 down to secure a draw with Croatia but only have one point from their first two matches and probably need to beat Turkey if they are to progress.

The 11 Spanish fans accused of attacking a corner store manager in Nice’s old town were suspected ultra-nationalists, French police said. Inside the stadium, five fans were arrested for the possession and throwing of flares.
