Dodge Viper 25th Anniversary Celebrated With 5 Limited Edition Models
Dodge will begin taking orders on June 24th, and those interested in choosing one (or more if you’re about that life) of the five special edition Vipers will have some soul searching to do.
The third is the VooDoo II edition which has been created to celebrate the Viper VooDoo edition from 2010.
Aside from the Viper turning 25, this also happens to be its final year of production, making Dodge’s announcement somewhat bittersweet. Using the same track record theme, Dodge previously produced 33 units of the 2010 Viper ACR 1:33 Edition to tout its previous track record of 1:33.915 set by SRT dynamics engineer Chris Winkler at Laguna Seca Raceway in November 2009.
Finished in white with a blue center stripe and red driver stripe, the Dealer Edition ACR Viper features carbon-ceramic brakes, ACR interior with contrasting red stitching along with the serialised instrument panel badge and matching vehicle cover printed with the owner’s name.
After 25 years in production, the Dodge Viper is coming to an end in 2017. With white exterior paint set off by blue GTS stripes, this model pays tribute to the Viper’s victory in the 1997 FIA GT2 championship. Launched in 1998, the Viper GTS-R GT2 Championship Edition will be one of those cars that’s instantly recognisable as a Viper.
The fifth and last special edition to be rolled out is the Dealer Edition ACR (not shown in photo).
The Viper is hand-built by about 80 workers at the Conner Avenue Assembly plant in Detroit.
If you want one of these limited-edition models, know that quantities are actually pretty limited. Dodge will build 31 units of this special edition model.
The third-generation Dodge Viper was unveiled in 2012, three years after Chrysler made a decision to discontinue the nameplate due to serious financial problems. A total of up to 25 Vipers will be available in this configuration.
All versions of the 2017 Viper carry over with the 8.4-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that makes 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Painted in Snakeskin green with a special contrasting snakeskin-patterned SRT stripe, it’s meant to highlight the fact that the Viper is literally named after a venomous snake.
Finally, as a sort of “thank you” to the two highest volume Viper dealers in the US, the Dodge Dealer Edition ACR sports both a red and a blue stripe running down each top side of the auto. Despite offering multiple discounts, Dodge only managed to sell less than 1000 Vipers a year ago prompting parent company FCA to pull the plug.
Voodoo II ACR: black on red, with carbon ceramic brakes and the aero pack, the ACR interior and a run of just 31 cars.
