Homeowner shoots intruder police identify as ex-NFL player
Authorities say a homeowner in Portland, Oregon, shot an intruder who turned out to be former Detroit Lions cornerback Stanley Wilson II.
He was a running back for the Cincinnati Bengals and was on the team that went to the Super Bowl in 1989.
When his son was drafted by the Lions 11 years ago, he told the Dallas Morning News he hoped to restore his father’s name in National Football League circles.
Wilson Sr. was banned for life since it was his third drug offense, and he was later sentenced to 22 years in prison for stealing from a Beverly Hills home. “I feel I’m blessed that he’s around”. It’s not a burden.
Portland officers and Multnomah County deputies responded to the 4900 block of Southwest Humphrey Boulevard at 3:51 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken into custody, then rushed to a nearby hospital. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries from being shot and was treated at a local hospital.
He was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree burglary and first- and second-degree trespassing. The homeowner has cooperated with police.
At this time, no one’s quite sure why Wilson was breaking into the home, or why he was naked.
The home is in a high-end Portland neighborhood where two other break-ins have happened in the last few weeks.
Wilson helps break up a pass on September 30, 2007, at Ford Field in Detroit.
