Bulls Trade Derrick Rose to Knicks
Derrick Rose’s tenure in Chicago is officially over.
The reported move comes on the heels of NY president Phil Jackson insisting to reporters that his struggling team can make the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference.
The New York Knicks acquired Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, hoping the former NBA MVP can be their answer at point guard. It might be a bit over the edge say, it was a good trade, but unfortunately, the New York Knicks is bound to get a totally different Derrick Rose this time. Lopez averaged 10.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a year ago, starting in all 82 games. The oft-injured Rose last played a full season in 2010-2011, when he won the league’s MVP award.
WBEZ sports contributor Cheryl Raye-Stout has been on the sidelines – and in the training rooms – for every step and misstep of Rose’s career and gives some insight into the trade.
The departure of Robin Lopez means the Knicks are in the market for a center, and the list of options starts with Joakim Noah, Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol.
Chicago is expected to include wing player Justin Holliday as well as a 2017 second-round pick.
Whether Jimmy Butler stays in Chicago remains to be seen. Here are all the latest Knicks rumors and news you need to know.
Although Rose has missed parts of the past four seasons with various injuries, when healthy he is still a top-15 point guard. After those 1st 4 sensational seasons, Rose’s body began to break down and he was able to play in only 39% of possible games since 2012-13.
“I wanted to write him a letter of thanks for the park, but I don’t know how to get in touch with him”, Malloy said.
The move came on the eve of the NBA Draft, when the Knicks will look for more help after missing the playoffs last season. This may have been overstated a bit and sources have told Basketball Insiders that the issue was more about the respective players’ camps, but it still removes any tension that may have existed. The last few years have been hard on him, as they have the Knicks, and maybe they can find success together.
Grant, 6-4, 195-pounds, completed his rookie season for the Knicks with averages of 5.6 points and 2.3 assists over 16.6 minutes in 76 games after being selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 19th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and then, had his draft rights traded to NY in exchange for Tim Hardaway Jr.
