LeBron’s hometown Akron celebrates his National Basketball Association title with Cavs
Jubilant fans packed downtown Cleveland on Wednesday as the city prepared to give a hero’s welcome to National Basketball Association superstar LeBron James and his Cavaliers teammates for bringing home the first major sports title in more than 50 years.
The celebrations in Cleveland started Sunday night, and the city’s elation is still going strong.
No major city had endured more pain with its sports franchises.
According to various estimates, about one million people attended the parade and rally.
Cleveland will have a parade for the Cavaliers on Wednesday in honor of the team’s first-ever title.
Cleveland is certainly in need of something to cheer about; the OH city, which has seen its population decrease with one of the worst poverty ratings in the country, has seen a a monumental decline following the relocation of tax-based businesses in the area.

CLEVELAND (AP) – Following a parade choked to a crawl by a massive crowd, after proclamations, speeches and fanfare, Cleveland watched a symbolic passing of the trophy – and the torch.
An estimated 2 million people flocked to downtown Cleveland to see LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and the Cavaliers revel in the team’s long-awaited championship win in the city.
Attractive weather, plus high hometown emotions, fueled enormous turnout for the parade.
Just feet from where his iconic, 10-stories-tall banner hangs, LeBron James posed with his arms outstretched just as he does on the giant mural – life imitating art. Cleveland fans may have burned his jersey six years ago, but now he’s their hero once more.
Police in patrol cars and on horseback are attempting to move spectators back so the parade, which was supposed to last just 90 minutes, could resume.
How big of a deal is this parade?
The Cavs’ rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to dethrone the defending champion Golden State Warriors, earning the city of Cleveland its first championship in any major sport in more than five decades.
“After all, championships were routine”, the wire service notes.
The Indians last won a championship in 1948, failing to win the World Series in the 1990s when they appeared destined to do so.
