Millions stretch and bend for International Yoga Day
This event was declared to be internationally celebrated by United Nations General Assembly on December 11 in the year 2014.
A colourful and grand rehearsal for the International Day of Yoga 2016 took place this morning at the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh.
Observing the day as “International Yoga Day”, today the people from different parts of the country celebrates the International Yoga Day by practising and demonstrating the yoga session.
Yoga is close to the Indian Prime Minister’s heart, and he seldom misses the opportunity of mentioning it. During an address to the U.S. Congress earlier this month, he pointed out that yoga has 30 million practitioners in the United States.
Addressing the gathering, Modi announced two yoga awards-one worldwide and another national-for excellent contribution in the field of yoga internationally and nationally, respectively, to be given on global Day of Yoga. “Glorious day kicks off #IDY2016 celebrations across the world!”
Akbaruddin last week said that this year’s celebration of the International Yoga Day will lay special emphasis on enhancing awareness that yoga is a holistic approach and not just a physical activity and how it can help in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The high commissioner welcomed the guests and appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants for making yoga popular in Bangladesh. According to the organizers, over 100,000 people joined Baba Ramdev on the International Yoga day.
The yoga sessions were held at some unusual venues. With the world facing the challenges of climate change and disorder, he said he hoped that the International Yoga Day can spur action to attain the SDGs.
