Footage shows moment black boy’s birthday party ‘gatecrashed by racist thugs
Melissa Alford, who said she lived at the house where the party was being held, claims men in a convoy of Confederate flag-bearing trucks were armed and threatened partygoers using racial slurs.
In one clip, police officers can be seen holding back a group of black men and women as at least seven pickup trucks drive off with the white passengers waving. “Then one of them said, ‘gimme the gun, I’ll shoot them n–.'”.
A second video shows the trucks gathered on a grassy area, and the N-word can be heard.
Ms Alford told the Atlanta Journal-Consitution: “One had a gun, saying he was gonna kill the [N-word]”.
The Douglasville Police Department said in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution that it had been alerted to the trucks and that its officers initially followed them but eventually stopped.
They were called to the party as arguments broke out between the groups. Bush claims that he and his men were pelted with rocks and ambushed by the partygoers, but the Douglasville police reported that there were no signs of an altercation.
One partygoer can be heard yelling, “This is a child’s birthday party”. Bush said he ran over a median trying to dodge a projectile and earned a flat tire for his effort. At one point, a member of the convoy yells something to the crowd. However, police said one person was arrested on unrelated charges.
Police say they received “conflicting” stories as to what led up to the confrontation.
“I don’t have a problem if that’s their culture”, Alford said “… But you’ve got to do it right.
Levi Bush, the leader of the truck convoy, told the paper his group, “Protect the Flag”, is not hateful and sells Confederate flags from its vehicles.
Douglasville police records supervisor Sandy Shiner told Mic via email the department could not provide a “photo or report” on the female arrested, citing Georgia law sealing records related to a “pending investigation or prosecution of criminal or unlawful activity”. “You can’t go around just blatantly terrorizing people”, said Alford.
