Sanders acknowledges Democratic race is over
“If the Democratic Party wants to put on a $50 million infomercial saying, ‘Hey vote for us, ‘ without committing to make this the last corrupt, billionaire-nominated voter suppression-marred election, then we’re going to crash the party”, said Kai Newkirk, the director of Democracy Spring, an activist coalition dedicated to “mass nonviolent action” against big money in politics. Ruland, who is 25, voted for Barack Obama, but she said she never really classified herself as a Democrat “until I had someone to stand behind” – i.e., Sanders. “Two words: Donald Trump”, she said.
However, there have been some tensions over the past week over leadership at the Democratic National Committee.
A top Republican official says he is anxious that some party leaders may help rebellious delegates who are hoping to derail Donald Trump’s presidential nomination at next month’s GOP national convention. “I’d love to be a fly on the wall on July 7th and see what affection they have for their candidate”.
Several Democrats described Clinton’s vice presidential search process on the condition of anonymity, because they were not authorized by her campaign to publicly discuss it. Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon would not comment.
But Sanders has held back his endorsement of Clinton as he has sought to push her to the left on issues that were centerpieces of his campaign, including income inequality, campaign-finance reform, education and healthcare.
“You have superdelegates not respecting the democratic will of the people, we’re going to change that”, Sanders said.
Clinton is advocating “debt-free” public college, and she says she thinks the federal minimum-wage should be raised to $12 an hour while states and cities could raise it to $15 on their own, as some are already doing.
Democrats said there was little discussion of Sanders or Trump in the meeting, which was more like a pep rally for Clinton’s campaign.
Clinton will join House Democrats at a weekly closed-door strategy session on Capitol Hill.
“It was a thing of beauty”, joked Crowley, who shouted, “you’re really working it”, after Becerra jumped up in the meeting. But he is urging Clinton to pick a running mate who he considers to be liberal. Other potential contenders include Massachusetts Sen.
Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta is leading the VP effort, CNN reported citing Democratic sources, while Clinton adviser Cheryl Mills is helping the former secretary of State with the decision. She says, “That’s why he’s attacking my faith”.
Speaking Wednesday at one of his Manhattan hotels, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee says that has “devastated” the American middle class. He says that’s largely due to trade policies enacted under President Bill Clinton’s administration.
Mr Sanders is also delivering a speech in Albany.
Among them: Trump says Clinton misrepresenting the danger she faced during an airport arrival in Bosnia, which she said happened in a combat zone. Since the race effectively came to a close, Bernie Sanders has fallen silent on the issue, avoiding opportunities to endorse his rival and presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
