Redmond joins Southampton from Norwich City
Despite being without a manager following Ronald Koeman’s exit to Everton last week, Saints have moved to make the England Under-21s global their first signing of the summer.
Southampton have signed Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond for undisclosed fee believed to be worth £10m.
Southampton are closing in on a £11m ($15m) deal for Nathan Redmond, paving the path for Sadio Mane’s prospective transfer to Liverpool.
The England Under-21 global winger had a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 45%, and won seven headers, 59 dribbles and 25 tackles. There was a 15pc sell-on clause on any profit due to Birmingham negotiated in the original deal.
The 22-year-old spent three years at Carrow Road but departs after being unable to help the Canaries retain their Premier League place last season.
Redmond joined Norwich from Birmingham City in 2013, making 122 appearances for the Canaries and scoring 13 goals.
However, there was often a frustration over Redmond’s inconsistency and with just a year remaining on his contract there was an inevitability about his departure this summer. “I can develop my game here”. “They like to play attacking football and it’s a style I feel I can really fit in well with”.
Southampton, who can look forward to a Europa League campaign as Koeman guided them to a best ever Premier League position of sixth last season, said they were delighted to secure the services of a young player who already had experience in the top flight.
“He has also performed exceptionally well on the global stage, playing a key role in helping England Under-21s win the Toulon Tournament”.
