Tyson Fury Denies Doping Allegations
World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has denied using steroids after news emerged he was under investigation.
The Sunday Mirror alleged that Fury – who won the belt in an upset defeat of Wladimir Klitschko last November – returned a sample with a banned steroid in it.
In a statement released on Sunday, Fury’s camp said: “We are baffled by today’s story in the Sunday Mirror”.
Fury recently suspended his rematch with Wladmir Klitscho citing an ankle injury and will now face Klitscho in October.
Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is optimistic that the allegations against Fury will not derail a potential British heavyweight showdown with his man in the future. About 10 days ago I was running up in the Lake District and I went over on my ankle and sprained my ankle.
Warren, despite his own disappointment at a cancellation so close to the fight date of July 9, reports that Fury has no option but to withdraw. That’s all I know at this moment, but the fight is still going ahead. “He’s an absolutely incredible champion and for him to hang out with the ordinary people like this and be friendly and get us a drink is wonderful”.
Fury, wearing an England jersey, arrived unannounced in Nice’s historic old town on Sunday, the evening before England plays Iceland in the round of 16 at the European Championship. The fight will be being postponed.
Fury has spoken of a need to crack down on drugs in boxing.
The 40-year-old said earlier this week: “I was in shock at his statements about women, the gay community, and when he got to the Jewish people he sounded like Hitler”.
