Academic Accolades for CMU Men

Upstate placed five athletes on the A-Sun All-Academic Team this past season in Cornfield, Sean Hassell, Sebastian Lopez Bulla, Tom Schofield and Trey Taylor.

Rick Byrd’s team received the third annual Team Academic Excellence Award presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Wednesday. “All involved should celebrate this award”.

It is the fifth time since 2000 an Austin Peay volleyball team has been recognized, joining the 2001-02, 2003-04 2012-13 and 2013-14 squads. In each sport, the team with the highest GPA for an academic year is honored with the award. Head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie led the team to the NCAA Regional Final after being crowned the regular season and tournament champions of the AAC. “I’m excited to have almost all of them back for this year as well”.

ETSU’s successful season also featured the SoCon Player of the Year, two All-Conference selections, an All-Freshman Team member, an All-American and one Palmer Cup player.

AVCA Academic Team Award winners must carry a combined team grade point average of 3.30 for the current academic year.

Colorado State is one of 90 NCAA Division I programs to earn the designation as an All-Academic Team, and one of three Mountain West programs to earn the designation along with UNLV and Wyoming.
