Canadian UFC veteran Ryan Jimmo dies at 34
CBC did not name the victim in their report, but MMA Junkie was able to confirm that the victim was indeed Ryan Jimmo. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. Former Ultimate Fighting Championship star Ryan Jimmo, 34, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident early last Sunday morning.
Jimmo’s aunt confirmed the news to CBC News.
UFC President Dana White paid tribute to Jimmo on Twitter.
Police are now searching for the suspects, who almost hit another auto as they fled the scene of the crime.
At one point in the fight, Jimmo approached the other vehicle on foot. The suspected vehicle then accelerated and struck Jimmo before leaving the scene. They believe there were at least two men in the vehicle. The incident is being investigated by the homicide section of Edmonton Police Services.
It added two white males occupied the suspect auto, described as “dark-coloured, older-model pickup truck with an extended cab and customised with oversized tyres and clear taillights”.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
He last fought in 2015, a loss to Francimar Barroso, but is most known for his 12-second KO of Anthony Perosh in his UFC debut in 2012. Jimmo was 19-5 in MMA (8 KOs.) He had not fought since his last UFC event in May of past year.
Jimmo was a fan favorite for his quirky, robot dance celebrations. We here at PWInsiderXtra.com would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Ryan Jimmo.
