Sure Knight Sues Chris Brown Over Club Shooting
Suge Knight, who is in the midst of battling a murder charge, has filed a lawsuit against Chris Brown.
Knight’s lawsuit stems from a 2014 party hosted by Brown where Knight was shot seven times.
According to Billboard, the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court claims that Brown and the club did not hire ample security, including “at least one armed person” within the venue.
The 51-year-old Compton native, who is now awaiting trial on murder charges, asserts that Brown has a “well-documented track record of hosting events and/or parties in which violence frequently erupted”.
He was one of three people shot that night, sustaining hits to the abdomen, arm, and chest.
Knight was shot seven times at a VMA pre-party in 2014 hosted by Brown at the 1 Oak club. Though not life-threatening, Knight has cited complications such as blood clots from the injuries in court hearings on an unrelated murder charge. The suit notes that BROWN’s parties have experienced incidents of violence, and also claims the R&B singer has gang ties.
The lawsuit does not state how much money Knight is seeking, but it asks for a judgment ordering the defendants to pay past and future medical expenses for his injuries.
“Aware of this documented past and the high likelihood of violence including the possession and or use of firearms by those attending the event the defendants, and each of them, had a duty to provide adequate security”, the 10-page lawsuit said. Brown has completed probation for his 2009 assault against then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Knight has pleaded not guilty in both cases.
Months later, Knight was charged with running over two men with his pickup truck outside a Compton burger stand, killing one and seriously injuring the other.
