Chesney apologizes to police officer after gaffe
On Sunday, country singer Kenny Chesney called Dorman to apologize for announcing at a concert that the injured officer had died.
Chesney performed at the Lincoln Financial Stadium in Philadelphia when he paid tribute to Officer Christopher Dorman who has shot in the line of duty.
Dorman, who planned to attend Chesney’s concert Saturday night, gave the country singer a shout out from his hospital bed in the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center on Saturday.
Dedicating a song to the hero, he urged fans not to forget Dorman, only to learn after the show that the cop was not dead.
According to Folcroft Borough Police Department, Chesney apologized “and wants to take Chris out to a football game and grab some beers!!” Hours before the concert, Officer Dorman had two things on his mind when recording a video from his hospital bed: the emergency personnel who saved him and Kenny Chesney.
Chesney apologized for his comments and called Dorman after the show.
Dorman, who has served as a volunteer firefighter for 10 years, works as a part-time officer with two Delaware County police departments and therefore does not receive benefits, the website said.
The Delaware County police officer wounded in a shooting last week is expected to be released from the hospital Monday.
But once realizing his flub – with the help of a swift response on social media calling him out – Chesney did make it right. “And hey, Kenny, don’t forget me”.
It’s unclear why Chesney thought Officer Dorman had died.
Christopher Dorman survived after being shot seven times. A man was arrested later in the day and charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
