Thomas Mair Charged With The Murder Of MP Jo Cox
A man is set to appear in court today accused of murdering Labour MP Jo Cox.
When asked his name by a clerk at Westminster Magistrates Court in London, Mair replied “Death to traitors, freedom for Britain”, which he repeated once more when asked a second time.
Mair said nothing when the court asked him to give his address and date of birth.
Mair, who is from Birstall, appeared at the Old Bailey via a video-link from Belmarsh prison this afternoon.
Haringey’s MPs are “heartbroken” after the murder of Jo Cox on Thursday.

Jo lived on a houseboat on the Thames with her husband Brendan and their two young children.
Emotional tribute was given by sister of Jo Cox, Kim Leadbeater, to her sister in Birstall, West Yorkshire.
A 77-year-old man who intervened to try to protect Ms Cox remains in hospital in a stable condition after suffering a serious injury to his abdomen.
“It is a vile act that has killed her”, Corbyn said.
An online fundraising page for charities supported by Cox raised 250,000 pounds in a matter of hours.
U.S. President Barack Obama telephoned her husband to express condolences and released a statement praising her commitment and service.
“Jo’s politics were inspired by love and the outpouring and unity of tributes we’ve seen in the past few days show the extraordinary reach and impact of her message”, Cameron said, describing her as a committed democrat and a passionate feminist.
