Mitsubishi announces Ground Tourer concept for Paris Motor Show
There are still a few months to go for the biennial Paris Motor Show but that hasn’t stopped Mitsubishi from putting the word out there that it’s planning to bring in something exciting and the company has already previewed what looks like an upmarket SUV.
The arrival of a new top-end SUV could help freshen a US lineup that has withered since Mitsubishi dropped the Galant sedan and Eclipse coupe.
This is evidenced by the new Grand Tourer Concept that the automaker will launch at the Paris Auto Show, which kicks off on October 1, 2016.
According to Mitsubishi, the concept will feature “the latest Japanese design trends” and a “luxuriously crafted interior”. The photo attached reveals a rather flat roofline painted in red, contrasting what appears to be a silver body.
Last year Mitsubishi delivered a couple of concepts that were aimed at showcasing Mitsubishi’s future in smaller cars and SUVs, with the Concept XR PHEV II and eX Concept. The scandal has torpedoed Mitsubishi’s domestic sales, forcing the company to forecast its first full-year net loss since 2008.
Little is known about the Mitsubishi Ground Tourer concept, which is said to combine Mitsubishi’s “unparalleled off road heritage and cutting edge plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology”. Add the fact that it will have a variety of advanced driving technologies, the Ground Tourer Concept is going to be the type of concept you won’t want to take your eyes off of.
