Red Sox’s Eduardo Rodriguez struggles against Rays in 13-7 loss
We will get through this…this is the time we need your support the most! Brad Miller has had success facing Porcello, as he has two home runs in just five at-bats.
Questions have surrounded the team, Farrell, his coaching staff, and Red Sox pitchers for most of the 2016 season, but the problems appear to be coming to a head in the wake of the extreme struggles by Eduardo Rodriguez, a perceived lack of leadership on the pitching staff, and mismanagement in the clubhouse. Boston (41-35) has dropped six of its last seven, giving up at least six runs in six straight as well.
In his last 10 games, Light hasn’t allowed a run while surrendering just six hits and four walks while striking out 13 in 12 innings. Snell walked David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez singled to put two runners on base. The Rays scored four runs off E-Rod in the third; manager John Farrell finally called in reliever Robbie Ross to finish the inning. He’ll attempt to recapture that form with the Pawtucket Red Sox, with whom he has a 3.54 ERA.
Price’s pep talk will mean very little unless the Red Sox begin to perform better, especially from the mound. The inning would unfortunately end there as Brentz was thrown out trying to reach third as the Red Sox trail 9-2.
Forsythe added a run in the fifth with an RBI double to make it a 10-3 lead for the Rays.
Players such as Travis Shaw and Jackie Bradley Jr. have not been the same, and it has hurt the Red Sox. It was later pointed out that Rodriguez may be tipping his pitches, which was a bad habit that occasionally got him into trouble during his promising rookie season in 2015.
Tonight’s game could see some offense. Ryan Garton came into the game and retired both Betts and Pedroia to limit the Red Sox offense again as they only score one run in back to back inning after promising starts. The team reluctantly turned back to Clay Buchholz to be their fifth starter after all the options they tried to replace him with failed. They were Logan Forsythe, Evan Longoria, Oswaldo Arcia, Taylor Motter and Nick Franklin. That will change. I’ll yell at [leadoff man] Mookie [Betts] for not hitting a home run.
The 23-year-old rookie commented on his first big league win by saying, “A really great moment that I get to share with my teammates”. The Rays have a 19-6 record when outhitting opponents.
“In the past 15 games, Boston has been outscored 22-0 in the first inning after outscoring its opponents 60-32 in the previous 61 games”, ESPN explained. I’m no lip reader, but it seemed the extent of it was Pedroia telling the young pitcher something along the lines of, “Get your head in the game, let’s go!”
