Mainers assisting in flood-ravaged West Virginia
“In the past, when we’ve had damage from storms, the community has been wonderful about coming together to help”.
The death toll in West Virginia has reached 24 after severe showers and flooding passed through the area over the last few days.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources advises residents to take precautions while returning to their homes to begin clean up to reduce injury and illness. They will be driving the trailer to West Virginia Tuesday morning. “Instead of us actually having to go to churches ourselves, I’ve tapped into that to give them the stuff, and then they can actually distribute”.
Bentley said the items needed include: nonperishable food items, bottled water, diapers, toiletries, pet care products/food, washcloths and towels, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, first aid kits, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, rubber gloves, laundry detergent, flashlights, batteries, blankets and pillows and feminine products.
Clark says going to help is important to him because he feels like it’s the right thing to do and would want someone to do the same for him. “We can have trucks there in a hurry. That’s what we’re planning on doing”. There, he was the logistics manager for one of the four mobile kitchens the Red Cross set up in the area. He lost his home in the flood and nearly his life.
This is such an easy way for many of us to be the hands and feet of Jesus and show love during this hard time.

“The flooding we experienced Thursday and into (Friday) is among the worst in a century for some parts of the state”, Gov. Tomblin said.
