This throwback Ford GT paint job is drop-dead gorgeous
Introducing the 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition, the spiritual successor of the GT40 P/1046 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 at the hands of Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren.
The already limited run Ford GT has a new even more limited special edition in its midst – the Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition – to celebrate the 2016 Le Mans success. In addition, the instrument panel, pillars and headliner also feature the Ebony-leather wrap, with gold appliqués on the instrument panel, the seat’s X-brace, and shift paddles.
Inside, the cabin is swathed in ebony leather featuring Ford GT logos on the seats and steering wheel.
Nonetheless, if you are a hardcore Ford GT enthusiast, this seems like it would be right up your ally if you were on the path to purchasing a new 2017 model. And linking further to its 1966 win it also comes decked out in #2 hood and door graphics. Ford has previously stated that it will limit production of the GT to 250 annually.
Memorializing both wins, Ford has developed a scandal sheet of its GT supercar named the ’66 Heritage Edition.
The 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition is offered in Shadow Black with either a gloss or matte finish.
Price? Ford is radio silent on that front, but I’d start thinking up Powerball numbers in a hurry. The No. 69 Ford GT rounded off the podium in third place, with the No. 66 GT race vehicle finishing fourth.
It’s essentially a cosmetic job only, with exposed carbon fibre exterior trim details, and its own special set of gold one-piece aluminium 20in wheels. The ’66 throwback edition will only be sold in 2017.
Ford hasn’t made any mechanical modifications to the limited-edition GT. That’s not a bad thing, because the stock model uses a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 that generates over 600 horsepower thanks in part to a pair of turbochargers.
