Former Colts RB Tipton Dies in Accidental Shooting
(Zurlon) Tipton pulled into the service bay at a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Roseville, Michigan around 9:30 a.m., according to WJBK.
The 26-year-old was immediately taken to the hospital and said to be in good condition, but he later passed away.
DeMara said Tipton had never visited the dealership’s service center before.
One of these weapons accidentally went off and shot him in the stomach.
The newspaper said Tipton had told police he was at a party when he received threatening text messages from his girlfriend’s former boyfriend.
Police expected him to be okay, as he was speaking with people at the time he was transported to the hospital. No one else was hurt in the incident.
Tipton, who spent a lot of time on special teams, totaled 15 carries for 38 yards during the regular season in his two seasons with the team.
CMU, the Colts as well as former teammates issued tweets honoring Tipton. DeMara said police were observed removing two handguns.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner confirmed the victim’s identity and has an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday, June 29. He was from nearby Sterling Heights and played in college at Central Michigan before getting his shot in the National Football League with the Colts.
