House Republicans’ report fault Obama on Benghazi attacks
It also blamed the CIA for writing false intelligence reports after the attack.
What have been the main controversies? Republicans charged that Rice and other figures were misleading the public for political reasons.
According to portions of the Republican report, one USA agent told the committee he heard some “kind of chanting”, immediately followed by “explosions” and “gunfire”, then “roughly 70 people rushing into the compound with an assortment of AK-47’s, grenades, RPG’s…and a couple of different assault rifles”.
He says the investigation is so politically motivated that the Republican party should disclose it as an “in-kind contribution”.
In a Benghazi report that Democrats issued Monday, they also complained that they had been excluded from the development of the panel’s conclusions.
“Nothing was en route to Libya at the time the last two Americans were killed nearly eight hours after the attacks began”, said chairman Trey Gowdy, a Republican from SC, while announcing the end of his committee’s probe.
What does the report say?
“The committee’s report shows an unconscionable lack of transparency, accountability and leadership by the Obama Administration”.
That report concluded that the State Department’s security measures were “woefully inadequate” on the night of the attack. The report does not lay the blame for these failures on Clinton but on lower-level officials.
US military leaders told the committee they thought an evacuation was imminent, slowing any response.
“I’ll leave it to others to characterize this report, but I think it’s pretty clear, it’s time to move on”, Clinton added. “Our priority continues to be carrying out our national security mission while mitigating the risks to our employees”, he said.
WASHINGTON (AP) – Republicans on the House Benghazi Committee faulted the Obama administration Tuesday in a report on the deadly 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya.
Why is this happening now? “It just never seems to work the way it’s supposed to with Clinton”.
“The report contains a significant amount of new information about what happened before, during, and after the terrorist attack that left four of our fellow citizens dead”, said House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Pompeo called Clinton’s actions after the attacks “morally reprehensible”.
Tragically, our ambassador and other Americans were killed.
Hillary Clinton was serving as Secretary of State at the time of the attack.
What does this mean for Clinton?
Clinton’s campaign dismissed the committee as “partisan”, and that’s how the report will be seen by Democrats.
The findings are sure to fuel attacks on Clinton on the presidential campaign trail, where she faces the Republicans’ presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, but they do not reveal any new substantial evidence of Clinton’s culpability with regard to the attack.
The committee disclosed that Clinton had used a private email server to conduct government business, a practice that is the subject of an FBI investigation. Let us know in the Comments or on our Facebook page.
What are the potential next steps? But its release means the deepest, longest-lasting investigation into the Benghazi incident is finished.
The problem is that none of these conclusions in the report by Republicans on the House Select Committee on Benghazi is new, despite devoting two years of staff time and $7 million in tax dollars to the effort.
