Dell Gives Up Android Venue Tablets For Windows
Windows is a stronger choice for devices that spend all or most of their time attached to keyboard docks, since it offers a wider range of “professional” apps and is already accepted among and familiar the business and IT types that Dell is targeting with these products.
In a nut shell, this can only be good news for Microsoft due to Dell, going all-in on Windows 10, where it delivers one essential message;”Android is no more an option and Windows 10 devices are the future”.
Dell can be considered the most recent casualty of the Android tablet market which it blamed is getting increasingly overcrowded while consumer interest in the segment has also been on the wane. As reported by PC World, the company will not refreshing the Venue line-up. Dell will also discontinues it Android-based Wyse Cloud Connect – its only other Android-based product.
HP is also clearing out its lineup of low-priced tablets.
Moving forward, Dell says it plans to build more detachable devices that act primarily as PCs, but can also act like slates when necessary.
“The slate tablet market is over-saturated and is experiencing declining demand from consumers, so we’ve chose to discontinue the Android-based Venue tablet line”, Dell’s spokesperson told IDG News Service in an email on Thursday.
Dell Windows 2-in-1s include the Latitude 13 7000 Series and the Inspiron 11 3000 Series. According to Dell, the current market demand isn’t centered on traditional slate-style tablets. Shipments in EMEA reportedly declined by 15 per cent. To finance the merger, the company has agreed to sell its software group to equity firms Francisco Partners and Elliott Management Corporation for $2 billion, and IT services group Dell Services to NTT Data for $3 billion.
“With the release of Windows 10, our 2-in-1s and laptops are positioned to take advantage of the largest growth opportunities within the personal computing space”, Schell adds. What did you like/dislike about them?
