More Counties Quarantined For Emerald Ash Borer

The Emerald Ash Borer is considered to be one of the most destructive tree pests ever seen in North America and environmentalists say it’s killing our Ash Trees.
Baie-D’Urfé is taking similar measures to identify and treat all of its ash trees before they die.
Franklin, Marshall, Rutherford, Trousdale and Williamson counties are now under restriction for the movement of ash trees and ash tree products after the insect was discovered in traps in those counties.

Traps have also been placed around the Denver metro area. The purple-colored traps are 24 inches long and are 15 feet up on ash trees. The lure can last for 60 days and the traps were sent in late May or early June.

“I guess it’s an honest disclosure that traps don’t work as well as we would like them to”, Pottorff said.
Maryland’s Department of Agriculture notified Frederick city officials in May that the exotic insect was a major problem in the region; Rippeon says they immediately took action.
