Rihanna Cancels Lollapalooza Concert Over Zika Concerns

Although Lollapalooza didn’t specify who the headliner was, Colombia news outlets are reporting that it was Rihanna and she dropped out due to concerns about the Zika virus.

However, it is worth pointing out that other Lollapalooza festivals have not been affected by the move to cancel Lollapalooza Colombia. We hope we can come back in the future and make this first edition of the festival a reality.

Aside from the Work crooner, artists like Lana Del Rey, Disclosure, Cage the Elephant, Anderson.Paak, Silversun Pickups, Matt and Kim, and The Chainsmokers were set to perform during the music extravaganza.

The Umbrella singer was scheduled to headline the inaugural two day event in Bogota in September (16).

Chile held the its own Lollapalooza festival in 2011 and others have been held in Argentina, Brazil, and Germany, noted Variety.

There have been no cases of Zika in Bogotá, as the Colombian capital sits at 2,670 meters above sea level and out of range for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits the debilitating Zika virus.

Lollapalooza Colombia has posted a statement on its website…

Everyone who purchased tickets will receive full reimbursement, including the service cost.

On a brighter note, it looks like all systems go for Lollapalooza Berlin, which is is set to take place on September 10th-11th.

It appears South America’s northernmost country is going to have to wait a little longer for the opportunity to pay way too much for a bottle of water.
