FBI director doesn’t recommend charges against Hillary Clinton
The Janesville Republican said the findings of the investigation clearly show Clinton “misled the American people”. Kirby also refused to comment on whether Clinton and the handful of State Department aides who transmitted classified intelligence on her private network retained their security clearances in light of the FBI investigation into their activities. “But their presence is especially concerning because all of the emails were housed on unclassified personal servers, not even supported by full-time security staff like those found at agencies and departments of the United States government or even with a commercial email service like Gmail”, he added. “They have all this information”. And just to be clear, the man who offered that judgment is himself a career federal prosecutor who was appointed USA attorney and later deputy attorney general by President George W. Bush.
Rather than scream about the decision not to prosecute, as he did in a tweet immediately after the announcement, Trump should realize he has been handed another gift. But Comey shared findings from the investigation that undermine part of the story Clinton has told for the past year. It is assumed that the Justice Department will accept this decision and not actually go through with filing charges against her. Attorney General Loretta Lynch already shared on Friday that her plan was to accept their recommendation.
Comey announced that agents discovered 113 emails containing classified information passed through Clinton’s private email system, including a “very small number” of messages that “bore markings indicating the presence of classified information”.
Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee in the 2016 US presidential race, served as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013.
Clinton’s rival Donald Trump objected to the travel arrangement.
The fact that she’s now leaning on the president illustrates the damage done over the past year.
Presidents make all their airplane flights on Air Force One, no matter the goal of the trip.
“We do not see those things here”, Comey said.
Comey directly contradicted many of Clinton’s past explanations in the case, including her assertion that she’d turned over all her emails and that she had never sent or received any that were classified at the time.
“This clears her of the legal hurdle, but the political one remains”, MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt said. Another 2,000 emails were “up-classified”, or reclassified to a higher level of secrecy, after they were later reviewed, but were not classified at the time they were sent. It found no evidence that anyone had hacked into the Clinton email server to access secret information, although it also could not rule out that possibility.
What lurks in Hillary Clinton’s email accounts?
Not only do critics of Clinton have her husband’s meeting with Lynch to work on but there is also a reference to “several thousand work emails” that were on Clinton’s server but were deleted and not in the stash of 30,000 provided to the State Department. 36 contained secret information at the time. “They do not know what I am about to say”.
“As a veteran, I am outraged at our former Secretary of State’s gross mismanagement of classified emails”, Lawrence said. “Hillary!” and many booed when she spoke about Trump.
Clinton says teachers “would not tolerate that kind of behavior” in classrooms. “In looking back at our investigations, into the mishandling or removal of classified information, we can not find a case that would support bringing criminal charges on these facts”, he said.
“The final jury will be the American people, and they will issue the verdict on her corruption, incompetence, and bad judgment on November 8th”. “Given that combination of factors, we assess it is possible that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton’s personal e-mail account”.
The Associated Press reported in 2015 that Clinton’s server was targeted by spam from Russian Federation.
Comey says that’s not true.
Three of those were classified at the time, he said.
FBI Director Jim Comey criticized Hillary Clinton and her team for “extremely careless” handling of classified information, but decline to recommend charges.
