Siblings arrested in $24 million Miami marijuana bust
Hernandez-Gonzalez was arrested and was held on a bond worth more than $4 million.
A raid of the home of a suspected Miami-Dade drug trafficker turned up a whopping $24 million in cash, all sealed in buckets. The business is believed to cater to Miami’s robust but illegal marijuana grow-house industry.
Luis Hernandez-Gonzalez and Salma Hernandez were arrested following a police raid in Miami Lakes.
Police raided a home in Miami Lakes Tuesday and made the largest money seizure in department history.
Hernandez-Gonzalez, 44, is the owner of Blossom Experience, a Miami store that specializes in equipment to facilitate indoor gardening.
Inside, agents allegedly found marijuana labeled “Super Skunk” and “Chernobyl” as well as marijuana seeds.
The DEA began investigating Hernandez-Gonzalez back in 2010, after he dished to a confidential informant about the secrets of drug trafficking.
His wife, Salma Hernandez, was also arrested and charged with possession of place/purpose of trafficking (marijuana), possession of place/purpose of trafficking/conspiracy (marijuana).
Hernandez-Gonzalez was arrested and charged with money laundering, cannabis trafficking and other charges. The money was stuffed inside several dozen five-gallon buckets, which were hidden in the attic.
Along with the $24 million in cash found at his Miami Lakes home, police also found a loaded Tec-9 pistol with the all important extended clip.
According to the affidavit, investigators wire-tapped Hernandez-Gonzalez’s phone and heard him hand out advice on how to keep pot plants healthy. He admitted to frequently helping customers learn how to “properly cultivate marijuana”, Miami-Dade Detective Jonathan Santana wrote in his arrest report.
