1 hospitalized after report of shooting in downtown Denver
The shooting took place at 2:42 p.m.; Denver Police responded within 7 minutes, only to find the shooter dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Denver Post reported an active shooter was wreaking havoc in a downtown office building, drawing a heavy and quick response by police. “I’m still shaking. As a human being, we have to figure out what to do with gun violence”, she added, according to the newspaper.
Police said they were clearing the building.
Authorities cleared the building and say the scene is now secure.
Shots were fired in the area of 15th and Wynkoop streets Tuesday afternoon and a female victim was rushed to the hospital with several gunshot wounds. She was transported in critical condition, Schepman said. Video posted on YouTube showed people running from the building with their hands in the air as police officers managed the situation. There is no information regarding the victim or shooter’s identity or the nature of their relationship. They interviewed 100 witnesses and learned Mickey Russell came in through a public entrance and chased the woman for a moment before opening fire. Their relationship or a possible motive is also unknown at this time.
An email from building management to tenants says the Alliance Center will be closed Wednesday.
There were unconfirmed reports of two people who were shot. The police department will offer its victims’ services to them, he said.
