Rajon Rondo goes to Chicago for 2 years, $30M
The four-time All-Star and former University of Kentucky guard agreed Sunday on a $30 million, two-year deal, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press.
Rondo was one of the NBA’s worst transition scorers this past season though he did shoot a career best 36.5 percent on three-pointers, which was comfortably a career high as were his attempts at 170. Offensively, with a pass-first point guard in Rondo, the Bulls offense should theoretically move through Butler more than it did in the last couple of years. “I think as a team you have to want the best for the next man beside you, and that wasn’t the case with the Sacramento Kings”.
Rondo does have a history of being a locker room cancer. With Jimmy Butler left in the team, it became a sign for the Bulls to build franchise around him and Rajon Rondo may not be the answer. That’s remarkable and, frankly, tragic.
But despite his stellar all-around numbers, Rondo has clashed with coaches. Finally, after ducking the media and setting off a firestorm of criticism, Rondo issued a second statement that included an apology.

Despite Rondo’s bounce-back campaign, there was still some skepticism regarding his value heading into free agency.
Rondo was also shaky in defense last season, far from his All-Defensive team days with the Celtics. Now Rondo enters a Bulls team in transition, one that has lost Rose and Joakim Noah and will nearly certainly lose Pau Gasol too.
The oft-injured Rose and the Bulls missed the playoffs this year, going an average 42-40. How will Fred Hoiberg deal with Rondo’s idiotic moments? The Chicago Bulls moved Derrick Rose before the NBA Draft, and have Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant filling out their depth chart at the position.
The next time Rondo comes to Boston, he’s unlikely to get a standing ovation.
