SC to hear Delhi government’s plea on its power
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has filed a case in the Supreme Court over its constant battles for power sharing in Delhi.
Delhi’s partial statehood gives the Centre control over land, the Delhi Police and other important matters.
In an indirect attack on the central government, Kejriwal said that his fight against corruption had increased manifold since forming the government in Delhi.
Delhi CM said that on the pattern of Mohalla clinics in Delhi, in Punjab Pendu Sehat Clinic would be opened in which apart from free treatment, medicines and laboratory tests facilities would also be provided free of cost.
His government wants an urgent hearing of its plea as the high court has already reserved its verdict on a number of issues of conflict between the AAP government and the Centre, including over the Anti-Corruption Branch.
The AAP government said the HC had no jurisdiction to deal with inter-government disputes, even if the parties consented to its adjudication.
“The pendency of this SLP will not come in the way of the Delhi High Court in delivering the judgement”. It also raised a question as to whether the Union of India can take over all powers of the state government.
“Final judgment of the HC is subject to an appeal before the SC. Let the HC decide the matter”.
Kanwar Sandhu said that instead of recruitment of youth on contract basis, they would be paid full salaries even during the time of their probation.
“There is a virtual paralysis in the functioning of the government”, senior advocate Indira Jaising told the three-judge bench of Chief Justice TS Thakur and justices AN Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud.
“We are not staying a pronouncement of the judgment”.
