Trump draws ire for anti-Clinton tweet with Star of David shape
The image shared by Trump on Saturday – reportedly created by white supremacists – accused Hillary Clinton of being “corrupt” and had a six-pointed star emblazoned across it.
“When I see Trump’s anti-Muslim scare tactics or anti-Jewish optics, it’s all evil and needs to be named”, responded one Twitter user.
Before deleting the original tweet, Trump tweeted the same graphic with a tweak: a circle instead of the star. “They push back when he says certain things, but the image with President Obama and campaign with Hillary Clinton is we don’t have those problems”, said McLennan.
“It’s the same star that sheriff’s departments use to represent law enforcement”.
Political commentators soon pointed out that the star was shaped like the Star of David, with critics claiming the meme could be construed as anti-Semitic. In July of a year ago, Trump’s campaign blamed an intern for tweeting a collage that featured a picture of Trump, the American flag and several Nazi soldiers. “The bottom line is, this is political correctness run amok”.
Donald Trump’s Twitter feed is once again causing outrage. Like I said, the system is totally rigged! Amy Kremer, head of the Women Vote Trump Super PAC, desperately tried to defend the GOP candidate.
But despite that interest, searches for “Star of David” matched “Clinton FBI” Saturday morning, and have been getting about 55 percent as much interest as the Clinton-related term since noon.
This is not the first time that Trump has turned a good campaign day into something of a tie.
At a rally in New Hampshire on Thursday, however, Trump shut down a questioner who told the candidate that he’s “opposed to wasting our military in the Middle East on behalf of Zionist Israel”.
Surprisingly enough, Trump’s daughter Ivanka is also an observant Jew, after having converted to Judaism before her marriage to businessman Jared Kushner. “It’s our true friend over there”.
But Trump has also been slow to disavow the support of anti-Semitic white supremacists who have expressed staunch support for his candidacy.
