Sheriff: Grizzly kills bicyclist near Glacier National Park
And so, it was with great sadness that the Flathead community mourned the loss of this local icon of sportsmanship, who died Wednesday afternoon after being attacked by a grizzly bear just south of Glacier National Park.

Authorities have closed the area around the attack – about three miles away from Glacier’s west entrance – and announced that Treat was an officer with the United States Forest Service.
Police said the man was torn from his saddle by the bear while the other cyclist rode off in search of help. In addition, Two Bear Air Rescue is conducting flights over area searching for the animal.
The attack is being investigated by the Wildlife Human Attack Response Team of the Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks, The U.S Forest Service and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Curry said that Brad was an important member of the area law enforcement agency. In the interim authorities have cordoned off the area as they now seek to capture the bear.
Six people have been fatally mauled by bears in the Northern Rockies since 2010, but those deaths were mainly in the Yellowstone area.
