The weather center also renewed its orange alert on Friday night for possible torrential rain and thunderstorms in several regions including Anhui, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, and Yunnan between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.
The official Xinhua News Agency said the mudslide buried 29 people in a village early Friday.
Almost 400,000 people have been evacuated or are in need of aid in the province.
Chinese disaster relief authorities and experts say more should be done to prepare for floods along the Yangtze River.
Some 9,000 houses collapsed and 710,000 hectares of crops have been damaged in seven southern provinces.
The landslide, triggered by intense rain, hit a village in Dafang County on Friday. Nepartak, the first typhoon of the year, is expected to bring gales and downpours to eastern coastal areas this week. Combined losses have been estimated at around 9.1 billion yuan.
Eight people who walked near the wall, more than two meters high, were buried by the debris and found dead after being pulled out by rescuers, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
More than 800 soldiers and rescuers worked with excavators to search for the missing villagers.
Heavy rain caused a landslide in southwestern China that killed at least six and left 17 others missing, local officials said.
The reservoir is located near railways and highways, and would post a threat to over 70,000 residents downstream if there is a breach.
