Google Calendar Goes Down and Netizens Declare End of the World
There I was, innocently checking on my schedule on Google Calendar to see what I had to do today, when I saw a “Server Error” page message.
Assuming it was just me, I tried again. The problems began in the mid afternoon (BST) of 30 June and are now being investigated by Google. It seems that there have been many users with a similar issue, to the point where Google updated its Google Calendar Service Details page with information regarding the outage. One user noted that Google Calendar going down “is like a snow day for adults”. Additionally, we’ve spotted scattered reports of Hangouts being down for some, although the Google Apps dashboard is not showing any issues as of the time of this writing.
Google’s calendar is temporarily unavailable to users around the world, an event that lit up social media as people addicted to the service bemoaned the impact on their work and personal lives.
The extent of the disruption wasn’t clear, though even a fraction of Google users would be millions of people.
A Google representative returned a ZDNet call and added, “Just a note that a fix is in place for Calendar”. We’ll update this post when we hear back.
