Pence to meet Trump amid talk about vice presidential choice
With the Republican National Convention only weeks away, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is in the process of vetting possible candidates to join him as his vice presidential running mate.
The meeting this weekend raises questions about what it would mean for Pence’s gubernatorial re-election campaign at home.
On Thursday, Pence told reporters he had not spoken with Trump since before Indiana’s May 3 primary contest, MSNBC said.
Before being elected Governor, Pence served as the Chair of the House Republican Conference, a position that would fulfill Trump’s desire to tap a running mate with Congressional experience. He once had his own presidential ambitions but his popularity has since fallen and he ruled out a run previous year.
“If there are really people questioning Trump being a conservative, Pence will fill those holes”, Early added, calling Pence “a good friend” who has “done a hell of good job” as governor. “I think all the attention on us is more of a reflection of the progress in this state”, said Pence. Groups threatened boycotts, late-night television shows mocked the policy and a coalition of gay rights supporters and business interests successfully demanded that lawmakers approve changes.
A senior adviser to the Trump campaign has described the relationship between the two as “good” despite his initial endorsement of Trump’s rival, Sen. “He had a leadership role in Congress and would be able to be the president’s lead on Capitol Hill”.
Jeff Caldwell, Indiana’s state GOP chairman, said Hoosier State voters would back Pence no matter what.
IN state law would prohibit Pence from running for both Governor and Vice President.
“Mike Pence has always put his own political agenda ahead of everything and everyone else”.
