Falcao, Pato, Amelia: Chelsea announce trio leave the club
Pato and Falcao depart following the expiration of their loan deals from Corinthians and Monaco respectively. The expected formal decision over the two strikers came just days after it emerged that Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi is set to become the first signing of the Antonio Conte era at west London in a deal worth around £33m ($43.8m).
Chelsea have also confirmed former Ajax and Netherlands Under-16 prospect Juan Familia-Castillo, who has joined the Premier League side as part of the club’s scholar programme.
It was confirmed today on the Chelsea FC website that Radamel Falcao and Alexandre Pato would be leaving the club.
Pato and Falcao will return to their parent clubs, while Amelia is a free agent.
It is expected that the Italy coach, who is now preparing for a winner-takes-all Euro 2016 quarter-final against Germany, will seek to make significant changes to an ageing squad, with the trio never likely to fit into the former Juventus boss’ typically high-intensity system.
Former Manchester United flop Falcao was given a second chance to prove himself in the Premier League last summer, while Brazilian Pato made a surprise move to the Blues in the January window.
However, fitness issues restricted him to just two games, where he scored once in the 4-0 victory at Aston Villa in April.
Amelia, 34, joined the Blues on a short-term contract to reinforce the goal after Thibaut Courtois’ injury.
