Infosys Swathi Killer Finally Arrested in Tamil Nadu !!
Making a breakthrough in the sensational murder of Infosys software engineer S. Swathi (24) at the Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai last week, the police late on Friday arrested her suspected killer in Tirunelveli in southern Tamil Nadu. The accused, P Ramkumar, is from Sengottai, Tirunelveli and was nabbed by the police on Friday night but the 23 year-old managed to slit his throat with a sharp object when the police surrounded him.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment after he allegedly attempted to commit suicide, police said.
The police had come under criticism as no headway has been made in the case so far although cops had released CCTV images of a suspect.
Ramkumar, is an unemployed engineering graduate and has two sisters.
Ramkumar did not have any accomplices in the crime, he said refuting collaboration theory speculated by a section of the media.
He also lauded the efforts of people for helping the police.
Later, police got the “delivered” message, when they texted Swathi’s number from one of her friend’s mobile, when the cell phone had been turned on for a few seconds. “The CCTV cameras in the locality are also being reviewed to obtain possible hints about the murderer”, said sources.
“We have to check with the college authorities and others to know about him”, the police said.
According to the police, Ramkumar was Swathi’s neighbour in Choolaimedu. Shortly after Swathi’s father Santhana Gopalakrishnan, a resident of South Gangai Amman Koil Street in Choolaimedu saw her off at the station she was attacked when she was waiting at platform No 2 to catch a train to her workplace at Maraimalai Nagar in Kancheepuram district, 50 kms from Chennai.
Ram Kumar was stalking the techie Swathi for three months on her way to the office and back home and had the intend to befriend her.
