Teenager found dead in canal after fleeing police
A teenage boy is thought to have drowned after jumping into a canal while being chased by police.
Jack Susianta (17) fled home after officers were called when he smashed a window.
A boy matching his description was spotted on Hackney Marshes around an hour later, at 3.50pm, but ran away from officers, according to a statement released by the Metropolitan police.
He was next seen floating in a canal near Lea Bridge Road in Hackney.
“A police officer entered the canal in an attempt to rescue him, but the male went under the water”.
Police said they were called to the boy’s home shortly after 3pm because family members were concerned for his welfare.

“A search of the canal and surrounding area was conducted by police officers with the assistance of dog units, the police helicopter, the Marine Policing Unit and London Fire Brigade”.
The Hackney Police account had also tweeted appeals over the disappearance of Jack in the early hours of Tuesday (28 July), followed later by a message saying he had been found.
The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, they added. “Call 999 quoting CAD 5306”.
The body was taken away for post-mortem examination and as yet has not been formally identified.
“We’re now dealing with an incident involving a man in the canal in Leabridge, involving partner emergency services”, the force said in a later post.
“We haven’t yet determined whether it will be necessary for an independent investigation”.
