Man United set to sign Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan
The Armenian worldwide spent the last three seasons plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and with his contract set to expire following the upcoming season, the club chose to cash in on Mkhitaryan before losing him for nothing.
Although United are yet to confirm the transfer themselves, the Borussia Dortmund chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “Based on a completely new situation, this transfer was a hard trade-off for us”.
Mkhitaryan also needs to pass a medical and secure a work permit before becoming United’s third major summer signing under Mourinho, following on from the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly. Mkhitaryan tallied 23 goals and 32 assists for BVB last season.
The Armenian worldwide has been linked with the club since Jose Mourinho joined the Red Devils as their next boss.
“The paths of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and (27) separate from this summer”, they confirmed.
Italian super agent Mino Raiola’s tug-of-war with Dortmund today ended as the German club announced that Mkhitaryan is set to Manchester United over the weekend.
“Henrikh Mkhitaryan moves to Manchester United”.
Did they really need to point out that 20-time English champions United finished fifth in the Premier League last season? Negotiations were completed swiftly when a delegation arrived in Manchester this week and with the two clubs agreeing their side of the deal, the player’s formalities followed suit.
“Based on a completely new situation, this transfer was a hard trade-off for us”, explained Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.
