Sony to End Support for Ustream on August 1
However, if you were thinking this mid-generational hardware release could be the start of regular hardware upgrades in the PlayStation line of consoles, Sony would like you to know that it is not the case. The streaming service provider was often a haven for PlayStation 4 owners who preferred to broadcast streams from Sony’s “The Playroom“. It is now believed that the PlayStation 4 Neo is set to be released in the fall of this year, while Microsoft’s new offering will hit store shelves some time in the next year. But what about a simple mid-cycle PS4 redesign along the lines of the Xbox One S or the PS3 slim?
We’ve heard this a fair bit (and seen it happen too)- every time a console manufacturer launch a major new peripheral for their console, they argue that it will end up lengthening their console’s life. At the show itself, Microsoft would one-up Sony by announcing two new Xbox models – the slimmed-down Xbox One S, which is scheduled for this year, and the more powerful Project Scorpio in late 2017.
If the report is true, Sony will have three PlayStation 4 consoles out in 2016-the vanilla PS4, the PS4 Slim, and the PlayStation 4 Neo. The consoles are pointless without the special TVs as they do everything their predecessors did besides providing UltraHD compatibility.
A new report from The Wall Street Journal claims that Sony has both a PlayStation Slim and PlayStation Neo ready to be shown off at TGS on September 15, 2016. Like the Neo, Project Scorpio will also be backwards compatible with already released Xbox One games. Of course, Sony has refused to comment.
Sony says that the Neo-and assumedly, by extension, a slim version of the PS4-will not shorten the lifecycle of the PS4.
Inside sources confirmed that the console announcement might be made at the Tokyo Game Show.
