Federation Internationale de Football Association raises ticket prices for 2018 World Cup
However Russian residents get significantly discounted tickets.
The cheapest tickets start at $105 for non-Russians during the group stage, about $15 more than the cost for the same type of tickets in Brazil.
Russian Federation is now in full-swing preparations for the global football championship after the country won the bid to host the 2018 World Cup at the FIFA Congress in Guatemala on December 4, 2010.
Prices for the final at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow will range from US$455 to US$1,100, with opening-match tickets costing between US$220 to US$550.
However, Marseille authorities thanked Russian police for sharing intelligence which led to the convictions of three Russian fans for involvement in the Marseille violence and the deportation of 20 more.
“We wanted to make sure that we priced tickets fairly to make the events accessible to as many people as possible”, Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura said.
At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil the cheapest first-round tickets were US$90, and US$440 for the final. “We therefore conducted thorough market research and have priced the tickets accordingly”.
Asked about fears that such violence could be repeated in Russia, Samoura said “there will be additional measures”, including known troublemakers being banned from stadiums. It will be the tenth edition of the tournament and will feature the six winners of the Federation Internationale de Football Association confederation championships, the 2014 World Cup champion (Germany) and host (Russia). The clashes between fans before and after games made headlines around the world.
The Confederations Cup takes place every four years in the same country as the next World Cup.
