Yooka-Laylee Publishing to Be Handled by Team17, Retail Release Under
Yooka-Laylee, the Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor that did incredibly well on Kickstarter a few months back, is apparently getting published by Team17.
It has however come into question that with £2 million under their belts, why does Playtonic need a publisher? In the meantime, Playtonic will focus their efforts more on the game’s creative and design elements. “Personally I feel it would be a great shame if after our great Kickstarter success, we delivered on our promise of a great game and then it underperformed sales-wise because we didn’t have the knowledge, or made a mistake in the way we released or marketed the game”. Team17 will not only be handling digital publishing, but are also looking into publishing physical versions of the game too. This would open Yooka-Laylee up to a number of potential fans who would have been unable to experience the title otherwise (no/bad internet connection, etc). It follows heroes Yooka and Laynee, who will use an arsenal of special moves like Yooka’s tongue grapple and Laylee’s sonar blast, as they explore and expand 3D worlds filled with collectibles and secrets. Team 17 will handle the game and has confirmed plans to release it at retail. They will also help Playtonic with QA testing for the game, localisation, marketing and the certification process.
“The whole team are chuffed to bits to have Team 17’s support”.
According to Team17’s announcement, this new pairing will enable Playtonic to expand the scope of its project, thanks to additional resources that will enhance development and ultimately result in a more value-rich end product for consumers.
