New City Boss Guardiola Aims to Prove Himself in England
Pep Guardiola has told his Manchester City players he will be thinking about them “24 hours” as he plots their success.
Pep Guardiola was introduced to the Manchester City fans for the first time on Sunday afternoon and told them he is relishing the challenge of furthering his managerial credentials in England. He’s coached great teams – Barcelona, Bayern Munich.
The decision to miss out on the Olympics means the forward, who scored 12 goals for City last season, will get the chance to impress new boss Pep Guardiola in preseason. We have a lot of expectations for the new season, and when you see which managers and players are joining.
Guardiola has also moved quickly to bring in new talent, signing German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund for £20 million (RM106.2 million) and Spain winger Nolito from Celta Vigo for £13.8 million.
Guardiola takes the lighter spirit in his stride.
“If a young player has the ability and they show me the passion to succeed in the world of football, they will be in my hands”. He had been linked previously with Manchester United and revealed: “Maybe previous year it was close, but not everything happened like I wanted it to. Without that, it is impossible”, he added. “I was always curious to know what it is like in England”. The past is the past.
“But normally the people who try to understand the game and try to know why we do that, and not the other situation, okay, we will have a good relationship. We are here to try again”. But I lived in Barcelona – the people in Madrid are absolutely insane.
“I can play number 9, 10, 7 and 11 as well so I can play in different positions”. I think that is what makes me strong. “The reason I work here is just to help the players”.
His aim is to conquer a third European domestic league after winning La Liga three times with Barcelona and the Bundesliga three times with Bayern.
“He is not a bad player, this guy!”
